Most People Quit Resolutions On Day 2

Most People Quit Resolutions On Day 2 | | SOS Radio

We’ve officially kicked off another year! This is a fresh start. A new opportunity to look forward! An opportunity to get excited about our future. I have a goal to focus on health this month. Meal planning, more dates with the elliptical machine at the gym. Tracking what I’m eating now that the Christmas cookies are finally gone.

Rather than think about a big new goal for this year, simply think about what you can do for a week straight. Think about how you can follow through on something this week as you soak up what’s present. Jon Acuff has a book called FINISH that explains, “the best way to finish a goal is to start.” Jon says the research shows that most people quit after the second day. That’s tomorrow. You just need to get through the next three days consistently if you want to build momentum! What can you do to ensure you have the energy to finish tomorrow? Put a reminder in your phone. Write out some Bible verses around your house. Put a date on the calendar. Ask for a friend to check in on you and hold you accountable. Invite someone to join as you work toward your goal. We all want to quit sometimes. Goals are uncomfortable. They force us to do things that aren’t in our normal passion zone. You’re not alone!

In Paul’s Second letter to the Corinthians, he said: “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)

Let that marinate for a minute. Do you believe you can take EVERY thought captive and put it under the authority of Jesus? That may be your key to follow through this week. You’re not alone. Everyone struggles with this. You can do this with the help of the Holy Spirit inside you!

“Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul.” -Psalm 54:4
