Shepherds Are Different Kinds of Leaders

Shepherds Are Different Kinds of Leaders | | SOS Radio

Ever think about how a shepherding leader is different than an administrator? Think about how God may have been setting the stage by using the shepherd to help spread the Word on the Messiah's birth....

"The Lord is my shepherd....I shall not be in want. He meets my needs, he protects and guides me....."

Isaiah 40 explains that the Messiah (the savior who will come) will be a shepherd to our world. Shepherds were not the nobility that usually became kings. Isaiah uses the term shepherd seven different times. The Prophet Isaiah explained who this coming monarch would be quite different than a normal king and he explained it like 700 years before Jesus was born. He described the coming savior as “The good shepherd" with compassion, tenderness and special strength.

“Behold, the Lord God shall come with a strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him; Behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him. He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young.” Isaiah explains this coming king with different leadership qualities. He describes Jesus as a powerful and nurturing shepherd.

John 10:11 in the New Testament completes the circle as Jesus is described as “the good shepherd.”

When you hear quotes from the Bible talking about sheep, shepherds & flocks, think about how shepherds lead. Think about how Jesus leads as a shepherd rather than an administratior or manager.
